One of the best things that I commit to doing every year to grow & further my dance is traveling. Traveling helps me to maintain a fresh approach to my dance as well as broadening my personal style and skills.
Here I share with you my two favourite cities to travel to for dance, New York City & Los Angeles, and the experiences that each have to offer.
This post is based on my top picks and recommendations only and is in no way an exhaustive list. These are my personal highlights of these cities’ experiences, that I return to each trip.
Los Angeles
The birthplace of Waacking and a city I will always be fond of! The sunshine and In’N’Out burgers are enough reason in themselves to visit this gorgeous city but here are my top spots for dancers:
Studios:
Teachers:
Lorena Valenzuela
Derrell Bullock
Lashaun Price
Rhapsody James
Accommodation:
LA is fantastic for accommodation geared specifically toward traveling dancers!
Personal Pick:
An absolute must and my favourite thing to do in LA after a course of intensive classes and training is to hit up Manhattan Beach for some serious chill time & sunset views! Followed by dinner at The Kettle!
New York City
My personal Mecca! My most magical city in the world and one that I return to almost annually. The growth that New York has to offer dancers is endless.
Studios:
Teachers:
Archie Burnett
Princess Lockerooo
Jeff Selby
Leiomy Maldonado
Peter King-Yuen
Clubs/Jams:
Personal Pick:
Junior’s cheesecake is a must and taking a stroll through Dumbo/Brooklyn Bridge Park for amazing views of the Manhattan skyline!
There are tonnes more I could suggest, I could probably write an entire book on them but for now, these are my top recommendations for any dance enthusiast visiting these wonderful cities!
